Maternity Experience Workshop: Inclusivity

What does the maternity care from Nottingham University Hospitals feel like for people who identify from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds?

We want to learn what was good, but also what could have made your experience much better.

This is an opportunity to join other people and parents with Black and Brown skin in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. We will show you how to join in a very simple game that uses stories and poems to spark conversations and ideas.

Why should you take part?

Because your feelings and experiences and your voice are important.

We know that women with Black and Brown skin have a statistically higher chance of adverse outcomes for both themselves and their babies. Yet we also know that people and parents from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds sometimes feel that they were not asked or were not listened to when they had concerns about their care.

We want to change that for local people in Nottingham.

Everything you share with us will be treated sensitively.

Facilities on the day

  • There will be a free creche places for children under 5 years.
  • There will be free refreshments and a lunch provided on the day.

This event has been co-designed with service-users with the aim of understanding how improvements in cultural sensitivity and the personalisation of care can contribute to meaningful and lasting changes to the experiences of the people and families receiving care from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
