Are you a student nurse/student midwife in your second or third year of undergraduate study?

Would you like to know what it's like to work as a registered nurse/midwife at NUH?

Join us at our first face to face student nurse open day on 17 October.

Presentations include:

  • Welcome to the event from the senior team
  • Dragons Den - Introduction to the divisions
  • Application and interview advice
  • Introduction to preceptorship at NUH

There will also be a market place with representatives from teams across the Trust including:

HCA Application Workshops

HCA Application Workshop

Applying for a new role can also be daunting, especially if you haven’t worked in that sector or for the organisation before. We run a workshop to support application form writing bespoke for Healthcare Assistant roles before our job adverts go live. The workshop is an opportunity to discover more about us as an employer, to hear from a current Healthcare Support Worker about their role and what day to day activity is like, we talk through the different sections of the application form and provide tips on how to complete these sections – translating both your work and life experience into supporting information and we also give you an insight into what the interview day will look like if you are successfully shortlisted.

Nottingham Hospitals Charity Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health Professionals and Healthcare Scientists Dissertation and Study Module Funding Competition Winter 2022

Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Staff Development funding for Nurses, Midwives, Allied Health Professions and Healthcare Scientists at NUH, supports academically accredited study for individuals, to help promote and encourage first class training in NUH NHS Trust.

Applications are invited from the 5 September 2022 until the closing date of Midnight 28 October 2022.

Applicants are invited to apply for up to a maximum of £1,000 per individual towards dissertation and study modules. All applications should demonstrate benefit to patients/carers/other healthcare professionals; improvement to service delivery and alignment with Trust objectives. Please note that funding for business critical training is not covered by this competition.

Completed applications should be sent to: Kath Brandreth, Institute of Care Excellence PA (Kath.Brandreth@nuh.nhs.uk) – please do not send them to the Charity.

The NUH Nursing, Midwifery, AHPs and HCSs Research Panel will review applications by the 4 November and successful applicants will be notified the week commencing 7 November 2022.

SSSA Training and Preceptor Training

Standards of Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) Training and Preceptor Training

Full SSSA Training and Preceptor Training

Who is the training for?

This is for any registered healthcare professional - Nursing Associates, Registered Nurse (any field), Midwives, Operating Department Practitioners, AHPs.

What is the training for?

This training is aimed at new Practice Supervisors who will be supporting learners (student nurses, trainee nursing associates, student midwives, and newly registered practitioners) in clinical practice. This training will introduce candidates to the Future Nurse standards and provide them with the information required to support learners in practice effectively. This training will introduce candidates to Preceptorship at NUH.

To gain the Practice Supervisor qualification, candidates must:

  • Attend a taught study day delivered by the Institute Practice Education Team,
  • Complete the five x e-learning activities within the digital workbook via Moodle.

Study hours and mode of delivery

We recommend that candidates have 15 hours of study day in total.

  • 7.5 hours: taught session via MS Teams
  • 7.5 hours: self-directed study day to complete the e-learning activities within the digital workbook via Moodle

**Please note that the independent study day can be given before or after the taught session. The activities within the digital workbook are additional content and information, therefore should not affect the candidate’s ability to complete the activities prior to attending the taught session.**

SSSA Transition Training

Who is the training for?

This training is for any registered professional - Registered Nurse (any field), Midwives, and Operating Department Practitioners who have previously undertaken a NMC approved qualification (ENB 997/998, SLAiP).

What is the training for?

The training will introduce candidates to the new NMC SSSA and the Future Nurse standards.

Study hours and mode of delivery

These taught sessions are 1.5 hours via MS Teams

SSSA Practice Assessor Webinar Sessions

Who is the training for?

This session is for nurses who have previously undertaken a NMC approved SSSA Supervisor Training and possess a Practice Supervisor qualification.

What is the training for?

The training is for existing Practice Supervisors who would like to progress on to become Practice Assessors. The training will include interactive activities and discussions around supporting an underperforming student, difficult conversations, values and behaviours and action planning.

Study hours and mode of delivery

These taught sessions are 1.5 hours via MS Teams

Step into Clinical Academic Careers Programme

Do you want to pursue a clinical academic career, combining research and practice?

As part of the Trust's ongoing commitment to supporting clinical academic careers for nurses, midwives and AHPs, we are running a series of mentorship programmes. The ‘Step into Clinical Academic Careers’ programme is a series of sessions which have been specifically designed to help you in the application process for the next stage of your clinical academic career.

The sessions will be an opportunity to meet other NMAHPs, have supervised mentorship from more senior clinical academics within the Trust, and give you some space to develop and write your applications and develop your aspirations.
