Healthcare Assistant Recruitment

Healthcare Assistants make sure the patient experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible, and are an integral part of the NHS workforce. Many healthcare assistants begin their careers at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) having little or no experience of care prior to employment, and grow to develop flourishing careers.
We host monthly recruitment events for Healthcare Support Workers, for the following divisions and departments:
  • Cancer and Associated Specialties
  • Medicine
  • Surgery

HCA Support Workshops

To support with helping you decide if a Healthcare Support Worker role is for you, we host Virtual Placement Workshops during the first week of the job advert going live each month. These will give you an opportunity to discover more about us as an employer, to hear about what the role will entail and provide an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You can find out more and book to attend the workshop here.

Applying for a new role can also be daunting, especially if you haven’t worked in that sector or for the organisation before. We run a workshop to support application form writing bespoke for Healthcare Assistant roles before our job adverts go live. The workshop is an opportunity to discover more about us as an employer, to hear from a current Healthcare Support Worker about their role and what day to day activity is like. We talk through the different sections of the application form and provide tips on how to complete these sections – translating both your work and life experience into supporting information, and we also give you an insight into what the interview day will look like if you are successfully shortlisted. You can find out more and book to attend the workshop here.

If you are successfully shortlisted

If you are successfully shortlisted you will be invited to a face to face interview. The interview will include a welcome session where you can find out even more about us and vice versa. This is then followed by a numeracy and literacy test before your interview.

Newly appointed Healthcare Assistants will receive contact throughout their recruitment journey to support with any queries and to work with HR to ensure their journey is as smooth as possible. They are also required to attend the HCA Academy as part of their induction week and complete the Care Certificate within their first 12 weeks.

Our Wider Workforce team provide a wealth of support for Healthcare Assistant career development; please visit their webpage here to find out more.

Futures – Health and Social Care course

We currently work with Futures, who provide a Health and Social Care Course, for those who wish to start their career in Healthcare. You can find out more about them and the course here. They also provide functional skills support for Maths and English, should you wish to explore this before applying for a Healthcare Assistant role.
